Hi, I have suffered from adhesions and their related disorders for 25 years caused by the trauma of repeated surgeries.
Although Adhesions affect up to 93% of those who undergo surgery, it is a condition that is often misunderstood by the medical profession and patients are not normally warned before their operations of the consequences they can cause such as bowel obstructions, debilitating chronic pain and infertility.
Adhesions are also caused by infections from endometriosis, radiation etc. Even a seat belt injury can cause Adhesions.
For those suffering, it is often a lonely existence, confused, frustrated, often in chronic pain and receiving little or no answers from the medical profession or understanding from family or friends.
I am now in a wheelchair and classed as severely disabled, it has amazed me just how uncaring people can be towards wheelchair users. I can drive the car short distances but I can hardly walk or stand in one position. The pain is horrendous, I take 75mg of Fentanyl per day plus liquid morphine for breakthrough pain. My GP is great but I think he feels as helpless as I do.
There are some good barriers available in the UK and Europe but none are 100% effective yet but there are new ones being developed all the time.
If you are contemplating surgery and would like to learn more about Adhesions before you proceed, or if you already suffer from Adhesions, Ashermans Syndrome, Fitz Hugh Curtis Syndrome or Arachnoiditis which are all forms of Adhesions. Please feel free to email me or visit the UKAS website.
